Saving Lives in Haiti: Earthquake Disaster Response

How scientists monitor and respond to major earthquakes and how earthquake response facilitates relief to people in need (yes, even in Haiti!).

The earthquake near Port-au-Prince, Haiti in January, 2010 killed hundreds of thousands of people, left over a million people homeless, and devastated the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The earthquake and disaster response were prompt and effective, but the long term recovery has been agonizingly slow. As the rebuilding in Haiti failed to progress, this talk has evolved into The Ongoing Disaster in Haiti (never presented, unfortunately).
