Welcome Visitor:

Does it Rain at Sea?

Does it rain at sea or only over land?

Yes, it does rain at sea. Some of the strongest rain belts on Earth are over the equatorial oceans. On land, rainfall is often controlled by elevation. At sea it is more likely to be associated with large cyclonic storm systems. The sub-tropical oceans, however, are generally pretty dry. These are the areas north and south of the equator up to mid-latitudes. This question arose on a Hawaiian cruise, which was almost entirely in this drier area. Clearly, more cruising to more areas is recommended!
